Basically, some are handling it better than others.

I think if government testing showed more defects in ANY brand earlier and notified manufacturers they would ALL step up. I bought a Toyota just days after the first (floor mat) recall notice hit the news and have been nothing but satisfied with my Tundra pickup. I did take it in for the recall on the gas pedal just to be safe, but was not concerned at all with the total safety of the vehicle.

American companies seem more in touch with how to handle recalls and problems effectively. I think they learned not to cover stuff up back in 70s and 80s. Chrysler tracked me down over some problem with my power steering about 10 years ago. They were clear about the problem and instructions for repair. The dealer scheduled me in quickly. They seemed in touch with what it would take for me to get the problem fixed painlessly. I buy American, but I know most people think foreign cars are better. Maybe they just haven't been getting the same scrutiny as American companies. My American designed, engineered and built cars have all been exceptional, reliable and fun -- especially my Sebring convertible. In over 40 years, I have only had two recalls and both were handled well.

I think about the tragedy that has killed children and families. This was allowed to go on way to long and I think Toyota was aware and only cared more about producing more cars. Toyota only wanted a name for themselves to be the number 1 car seller. I will never buy another Toyota I think is't a disgrace to let them continue manufacturing in the U.S. to much has happened. Toyota should be tried for each death of a child or family that lost their lives due to their neglect to address their vehicle recalls in a more timely manner. When you buy a Toyota now it's like playing with a loaded gun.

It takes customer courage to take action. We are becoming more determined to call up the problem and stick with it. Corporate identity and customer satisfaction are unfortunately very different these days.

I was really surprised when I received one for my used vehicle. Call it what you may but they found me. I worked at a GM assembly plant and I have owned a Ford ever since which is over thirty years.

If the upper management in the US get to keep their jobs then it is corporate wide but if they are fired it's just a problem with the American management.

The only way the mfgr is at all interested in repairing any deficiency is IF THEY GET CAUGHT! If they don't get caught, they'd rather get sued than spend the money to repair each affected unit. It's cheaper for them to get sued than admit guilt and repair the deficiency. All they're worried about is their bottom line. And to all the Toyota owners out there...I wish you all the luck in the world. You're going to need it. And remember, I've seen this from both sides of the tracks.

Just heard of a Chrystler van product with a transmission failure and it has only about 25K miles. Before that the same vehicle had an electrical problem. No recall issued so this must be isolated? I believe there's lots more out there but they don't get the publicity until there are deaths involved.

Most likely. Did the regulating agency that should have held their feet to the fire drop the ball? Probably. Have we asked all parties what they knew and when they knew it? Enough blame to go around, lets just fixed it and go on and do business, unless there is another motive by competitors owners (read GM and Chrysler large percentage of ownership by the federal government with a percentage owned by the unions) if they would unionize would this go away? So many questions, so few answers. At this point!!!

Motive?: Our Government now owns more than 60% of GM and Chrysler. What better way to discourage sales. Admittedly, it's a serious problem. Other Brands that are having recalls aren't under nearly the same scrutiny. Some problems severe others not so severe and a great many of them aren't getting ANY Media attention. Some Dealerships are acting less than honorable so I won't be shopping there.

I know personally 2 people with recalled Toyotas that went to the dealer and they were told their vehicles weren't part of the recall, when in fact they were. When they went to a different dealer, that dealer confirmed that they were recalled. So, what gives ?

Toyota is in direct competition with the Government (General Motors) and the MSM favors companies that participate in taking money from the government or are now government run as opposed to those that are for-profit. We are seeing the strong arm of the government and it's allies (the media) attempt to destroy companies that have benefited from hard work and profit. Next up? Insurance companies.
